Research into the myasthenias and understanding of the neuromuscular junction has made enormous progress over the last 15 years. Globally, there are four main centres of excellence – based here in the UK at Oxford, at the Mayo clinic in the US, and at centres in France and Germany.
By the end of 2009 this section will look at some of the most recent research in this area and the varied characteristics of the different genetic faults now being identified.
Research into the management of childhood myasthenias is progressing at an equally rapid pace. Again, details will be compiled during the second half of 2009 and the results put into ‘plain English’ for the benefit of families and carers of myasthenic children.
